Supervise indirect fire weapons

Assessment tool

Version 1.0
Issue Date: May 2024

The application of this unit in the workplace - the environments, complexities and situations involved - will be written during Phase II of the Review of the PUA00 Public Safety Training Package.

This text will be useful for the purposes of job descriptions, recruitment advice or job analysis; where possible, it will not be too job specific to allow other industries to import it into other Training Packages, where feasible.

This unit covers the competency required to supervise and control all aspects of the operation of indirect fire weapons.

While this work will be undertaken under the commander's direction the individual must be able to act independently as required by the circumstances.

You may want to include more information here about the target group and the purpose of the assessments (eg formative, summative, recognition)

Employability Skills

This unit contains employability skills.

Evidence Required

List the assessment methods to be used and the context and resources required for assessment. Copy and paste the relevant sections from the evidence guide below and then re-write these in plain English.

Critical aspects for assessment and evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit

Assessment must confirm the ability to effectively lead an indirect fire weapon operating crew; to apply appropriate OH&S requirements and recognised safety precautions; to test sights; to carry out non technical inspections; and to understand the limit of own authority.

Consistency in performance

Competency should be demonstrated over a period of time in different operational or simulated operational environments.

Context of and specific resources for assessment

Context of assessment

Competency should be assessed in a simulated operational environment due to the high cost of ammunition. The simulation should replicate the live environment where stress and fatigue are key features.

Specific resources for assessment

Access to a live fire range, competent indirect fire weapon crew, the indirect fire weapon, and live ammunition.

Guidance information for assessment

Information that will assist or guide assessment will be written during Phase II of the Review of the PUA00 Public Safety Training Package.
